so, its been a really long time, i know….. but damn we are finally done shooting everything for LOVE. we are officially in the “tieing up loose ends” part… Was in ADR all day yesterday with Gunner, sound design is moving along and the tracks are getting polished etc. Its been a super long haul, but we are way close.
spent the whole morning cleaning up some of the monster mess I made last weekend while shooting.
its weird to think that this movie has taken around 4 years… i was 24 or 23 when this journey began and now im almost 28. its crazy putting this much of ones self into a project, but in a way its so awesome… a lot of the art in the film is stuff i was drawing back in high school, in the backround of one of the shots in the space station theres a picture of my dog who was alive while we were shooting and now hes past…i think in the world of film making its rare to be able to have the pallete of 4 years to create something… might not of had the budget, but we definetly had the time. both the film and i were able to go through some serious evolution. i think back about it now, and decisions i would have made about things back then i dont think i would have made now and vice versa. i think thats why the film will so cool though. the story almost loosely follows a similar path, or theme, of how time changes eveything, especially perspective. its funny how true the saying is: that only time can understand how precious love is… the irony is amazing.
while the film definetly has a lot of little metaphorical messages in it, im hoping everyone is able to find them in their own way… that to me is what film making as all about. connection is everything. love is everything.
been using my computer to keep notes on shoots. hopefully when the ava movie comes out i can release the zillions of pages i have on the whole thing. these are from the inserts for a different film i was workin on last weekend.
mark eaton and i co directed this vid. cool piece that i think really has an intimate feel. i know it already leaked out there but at least this one is in hd. i’ll post the making of soon.
(i wanted to add, i sometimes do random uploads to tumblr and twitter which are linked, so if you want to add me to your twitter thingy heres my site http://twitter.com/superswift )
lost in space
so im pumped to be back because: there’s warm weather, or at least warmer than subzero … an editing office with cool shit happening ( i know i always say this … but i’m serious ) .. and i’m back with good creative people. ie. ava peoples… not to say where i was, was without creative people… but i have some intense stories to tell, that i will probably save for a couple of years from now, when the heat has died down.
whats on the menu for love, and what the f is happening with it…. in the final cutting stages with the vfx and some sound mixing mumbo jumbo. scott chesnutt a very talented cutter is doing the honors, which is only adding to the awesome base brian berdan set.
just finished up the coloring process for the new angels and airwaves music video “hallucinations” directed by myself and mark eaton… ive done a lot of music video stuff for ava and i think this is by far one of their best videos…
have some cool stuff in the works for another mind bender project… very cryptic, but very cool…
….so im back in michigan… in feb… its frackin cold here! im directing and shooting 50 cents new film, a movie about a football player who gets cancer. overall its a very different film from love…(i didn’t write it)
in terms of love, we have a new editor in my office, in la who is going to be cutting in the vfx stuff we’ve been working on forever. all exciting stuff.
so i haven’t been very good at updating this blog… but rad stuff is happening. we just got our trailer featured on the apple trailers site! http://www.apple.com/trailers/
recently i’ve been dp’ing a movie out in detroit… cold as hell, but so far a cool little movie. its got ron perlman in it … a hero of mine from city of lost children. so cool.
love is moving ahead, been having a lot of phone meetings with tom and its getting so close. can’t wait for it to all come together.
so i’m home from the studio for the weekend, up in sb : ) … super sore from swimming a mile off the coast of La Jolla … mark eaton woke me up early the other morning and forced me to go with him (he’s training for some sort of triathlon). when we got out to the half mile buoy, i asked him what the triathlon was benefiting … he answered “the keep mark from getting fat benefit”. i felt like that chick in the jaws poster… super sketchy out there :) … ill head back down on sunday.
heres a vid from the flick i was working on in michigan, miss those guys…
This is a shot from one of the sets. That’s the back of my head courtesy of Eric Knox my 1st ac. As we move closer to the end I’ll start to post more and more shots.
